About Us

Meet your hosts the Vallejos Brothers, Art and Efrain, between them they share the management of the three "Vallejo’s Restuarants".

These two brothers, as different as night and day, they contrast and compliment each other and between them they provide the balance necessary to maintain that smooth operation of running three restaurants and still provide the quality of food and service that the customers have come to expect. Each one provides his share of exactly whats needed. Please be sure and say hi! to them.

What has made Vallejos successful, what ensures it’s continued success, what makes one business grow and prosper, and another one fail? It is the returning client, the customer who comes back time after time, who tells his friends. YOU THE CUSTOMER is responsible for the success of Vallejos. And for that we thank you, We thank you our customers for your continued support and we at "Vallejos" promise to maintain the quality of our food and provide the service that you have come to expect.

The Vallejos Family opened ("Vallejo’s Deli") in August of 1983. The "Deli" opened on 20 St. between E and F, it started on the bottom floor of an old Grocery store that had gone out of business. The front page of our menu has the image of that old building where the "Deli" began. They started the Deli with their own Mamacita’s recipes. Recipes gathered over many years, from all the different regions of old Mexico. Over the years new menu items and new recipes have been added to that original Menu. To this day the menu has continued growing until now Vallejos has one of the more varied menu’s of any of the downtown Mexican restaurants.

Carnitas, Mulitas and Bolsitas , these were some of the Deli’s most popular menu items. One Sacramento Food Critic (Steve Larosa of Sacramento Magazine) said they sounded like Columbus’s three ships, the "Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria, that’s ok I’m sure Columbus would have liked our food, after all, wasn’t he from Guadalajara, yea! I think that’s it. Well anyway Larosa liked it, he rated the Deli’s food as "Excellent and Plentiful". In fact Larosa and several other local food critics have recommended Vallejo’s very highly and rated it number 1 in Sacramento in several categories. These tributes to our chefs and Mama’s recipes give us great pride and satisfaction that we are pleasing our customers. We appreciate these accolades, but we feel that our customers are our best food critics. They vote every time they return. The "Deli" was popular and soon had quite a following. These customers liked the clean and friendly surroundings, the good food, and they came back for more.

In May of 1992 Vallejo’s opened the restaurant at 14th and O St. This restaurant being on the other side of the downtown area soon had it’s own following of faithful customers. Sadly! this was soon followed by loss of the "Old Deli" in 1993. There was a tragic fire and it never re-opened. We loved the old Deli and we shall never forget it. It will always be in our Memory as the first baby steps in the birth of Vallejo’s.

After the fire Vallejo’s focused on running the New restaurant at 14th and O August of 1995, we opened the Restaurant at 4th and S St.. Finally in July of 1997 Vallejo’s opened the restaurant at 11th and O at the site of the old "Posie’s" bar. A famous Downtown "Watering Hole" for many years. It was frequented by many State Legislators, and Governors and one even became President.

So that’s were we are now, be sure and go by each different restaurant, try all three restaurants. Even though each restaurant has the same menu, each restaurant has its own unique way of preparing it’s food. You will find subtle differences in each one, If you see Art or Efrain be sure to stop them and say Hi!, they will appreciate it, tell them what you like about our food, or not! Either way we thank you for support and we look forward to your return.

Art Vallejo, is pure energy, hotter than than Vallejos’ Salsa, that’s Art. Art provides the vital energy required to keep three restaurants running smoothly, a never ending job. 16 hour days, 7 days a week, he always has a million things to do, Art is never standing still, he is always on his way somewhere or on his way back from somewhere. Be sure to say hi!, to Art, if you can catch him.

Efrain Vallejo; "Cool as Ice", cooler than Vallejo’s Margaritas, that’s Efrain. There’s a rumor that an ice cube won’t melt in his hand, I don’t believe it, do you? Efrain’s calm attention to details and organization keeps the employees focused on the bottom line,"the customers", ensures the continued quality of Vallejos food and good service, two requirements to keep the customer coming back.
